Discovering the Natural Wonders of Black Mountain in Henderson

Discovered just outside the city of Henderson, Nevada lies one of Nevada's most incredible natural wonders, Black Mountain. A small peak of a mountain, rising over 6,000 feet above the desert floor, Black Mountain offers stunning views of Lake Mead and the Mojave Desert, with its unique volcanic formations, unique wildlife, and diverse vegetation. Situated between Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam, on the eastern flank of the McCullough Range, Black Mountain is considered one of the most breathtaking places in the world. The Black Mountain region consists of an estimated 10,000 acres and features two main features: the main summit, reaching almost 6,500 feet, and a secondary summit, named "The Eye." In 1983, the federal government designated the area a National Site of Interest to preserve the unique array of natural features and recreational opportunities. The mountain and surrounding area feature a variety of wildlife, including mule deer, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep. The region is also home to various plant life, including juniper, pinon, and rabbitbrush. The mountain offers a range of recreational activities, from bird watching and nature photography to hiking, backpacking, and picnicking.

 

The steep and rugged terrain of the mountain provides hikers with an incredible opportunity to connect with nature. From the summit, breathe a panoramic view of some of the most impressive desert vistas in the world. The Eye, a second peak located off the main summit, provides a smaller, more personal perspective of the desert terrain below.
